About James Philpott

James Philpott is an Irish painter born in the North Atlantic port of Derry. His Ulster childhood  was spent in South Armagh.  After twelve years in London he moved to Paris in the late seventies where he worked as an architect until recently.

During his career, James has been painting on and off since 1983. His work is entirely the expression of an inner world inspired mostly by the maritime environment into which he was born and in which he now lives in Douarnenez, Finistere, France.

Since ceasing his activity as an architect, James  spends much of his time  painting.

He has focused on acrylic technique which, unlike oil, he found better suited to his "occasional painter" lifestyle when working as an architect. Now that he has more time to dedicate to his painting activity  he has embraced oil painting and watercolor as well as  the exploration of mixed media and digital imagery.

His defines his work as:  "Simply a way of sharing part of my inner world with others"
